When they started, they had very little understanding of brain injuries and the effects they have on people\u2019s lives. They were given small research projects to help them better understand what an acquired brain injury&nbsp;(ABI)&nbsp;is, the effects it has and how Headway supports its service users to achieve a happy fulfilled life. <\/pre>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"785\" src=\"https:\/\/therapyplacements.wp.worc.ac.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/Headway-1-1-1024x785.jpg\" alt=\"Students outside Headway\" class=\"wp-image-84\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<pre class=\"wp-block-preformatted\">From week 4, the day centre re-opened and Georgia and Jake were fortunate enough to be able to attend in person, learn from and help the support workers and meet clients. Typically,&nbsp;the days would consist of cognitively stimulating activities such as word and number games, quizzes,&nbsp;painting,&nbsp;and life skills&nbsp;(or as Jake says \"at least we try to, when&nbsp;service users aren't making use of the pool table!\") <\/pre>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"768\" height=\"1024\" src=\"https:\/\/therapyplacements.wp.worc.ac.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/20210323_150036-768x1024.jpg\" alt=\"playing pool\" class=\"wp-image-121\" srcset=\"https:\/\/therapyplacements.wp.worc.ac.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/20210323_150036-768x1024.jpg 768w, https:\/\/therapyplacements.wp.worc.ac.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/20210323_150036-225x300.jpg 225w, https:\/\/therapyplacements.wp.worc.ac.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/20210323_150036-1152x1536.jpg 1152w, https:\/\/therapyplacements.wp.worc.ac.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/20210323_150036-1536x2048.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/therapyplacements.wp.worc.ac.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/20210323_150036-scaled.jpg 1920w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 768px) 100vw, 768px\" \/><figcaption>Playing pool with clients was a good way to challenge balance and coordination as well as engage them in social activity<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p><em>&#8220;I have been able to assess service users, suggest exercises with follow up appointments so to enable them to work towards returning to their baseline and achieve goals they&nbsp;hadn\u2019t&nbsp;realised they could achieve. &nbsp;I have recently been able to organise an exercise class so that all clients have access to fun sports games&nbsp;that can be continued once&nbsp;I\u2019m&nbsp;gone.&#8221;<\/em><\/p><cite>Jake, 2nd year Physiotherapy Student<\/cite><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<pre class=\"wp-block-preformatted\">Alongside participating in the usual day centre activities, both students have been able to performing occupational therapy and physiotherapy assessments and interventions under the guidance of a long arm practice educator, to enable them to achieve their profession-specific learning outcomes .&nbsp;<\/pre>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p><em>&#8220;I\u2019ve&nbsp;been able to better understand the cognitive hierarchy and compare different cognitive assessments effectiveness with different client types.
